presents THE GLORY OF LIVING written by Rebecca Gilman directed by Melanie Dreyer cast and crew Michael Cunningham (Steve, Policeman) received his B.A. in History from the University of Pittsburgh in 2004. Past credits include Coyote on a Fence, Learned Ladies, Uncle Vanya, and Much Ado About Nothing, all with the University of Pittsburgh Repertory Theatre. Jarrod DiGiorgi (Carl) last appeared in City Theatre's production of The Moonlight Room. Other recent productions include A View From the Bridge (Pittsburgh Playhouse Repertory Company), Fully Committed and The Foreigner (Saint Vincent Theatre). Past productions at Saint Vincent: Over the River and Through the Woods, Lend Me a Tenor, Catch Me If You Can, Jeffrey Hatcher's adaptation of The Turn of the Screw, The Importance of Being Ernest, All In the Timing, Rough Crossing and many more. Other productions include Busman's Honeymoon and Leave It to Jane (Huron Playhouse), The Caucasian Chalk Circle (Unseam'd Shakespeare) and Undoing Salk (Pittsburgh Playhouse).
Melanie Dreyer (Director) graduated from Northwestern University with an MFA in Directing,
where she worked with Mary Zimmerman, Frank Galati, Tina Landau and Bob Falls. She is the former
Co-Artistic Director of ShatterMask Theater, a critically acclaimed Equity theatre
specializing in exploring alternatives to traditional modes of production. Fluent in German,
she specializes in the translation and direction of contemporary German plays, and serves as
artistic associate with German Theater Abroad, a company based in New York and Berlin. Directing
credits include: Woman from the Past (her translation) for German Theatre Abroad,
The Arabian Night (her translation) for Quantum Theatre, This is Our Youth for
barebones productions, She Stoops to Conquer for Pittsburgh Irish and Classical Theatre,
Mother Courage (her translation), Ballad Hunter, Learned Ladies, and
Silent Spring for Pitt Rep. Additional directing credits: Endgame, Der
Ozeanflug (rehearsed and performed in German), Vieux Carre, Measure for Measure,
The Physician in Spite of Himself, Action, Old Times, Dreams of Baby,
The Love Talker, The Middle Kingdom, Cabaret, The Servant of Two
Masters, The Endless Adventures of M.C. Kat, Blue Moon Rising, and Coyote
Ugly. She works as a free-lance director and translator and runs the performance training
and MFA pedagogy program at the University of Pittsburgh.
Claire Fraley (Jeannette) has been a familiar face on the Pittsburgh Stages for the
past 18 years. Her most recent productions were Dorothy Six with The Pittsburgh
Playwrights Theater Company and La Mason Spendue with Little Lake Theater. She studied
under the late Glen Z. Gress. Favorite past roles include: Theresa in Bomber Wing at
the New Works Festival, Joyce in Top Girls at Open Stage Theater (where she was given
an honorable mention for supporting actress from the Pittsburgh Post Gazette), Mae in Fool
for Love at the Penn Avenue Theater. Film credits include Pittsburgh's own The Bread
My Sweet, with plenty of wonderful Pittsburgh Actors and also Scot Baeo, and Lift,
with academy award nominee, Dominque Pinyon.
Amanda Frost (Lisa) is very excited to be making her Pittsburgh/barebones productions
debut. Amanda is a freshman at the Conservatory of Performing Arts at Point Park University
where she studies musical theatre. Amanda enjoys singing in her spare time, and she was named
one of the top three vocalists of Westmoreland County in 2004. Amanda hopes to be involved
in many more Pittsburgh productions to come.
Josh Futrell (Burrows) is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh Repertory Theatre.
He was last seen as a singing bottle of bleach in the world premiere of Colorfast
(Fuzzy Boundary) at the Pittsburgh International Children's Festival. Other recent credits include
Uncle Vanya and Hamlet for PICT and the 2004 Young Playwright's Festival for the City
Theatre. He is currently working for the University of Pittsburgh Shakespeare in the Schools Program
as an actor and stage manager for the touring Rachel Carson Saves the Day!Megan Grocutt (Girl) is a junior musical theatre major at Point Park University pursuing her B.A. She was last seen in the Fall in Take 19, a student directed One-Act for the Ramond Laine Memorial One Act Festival. The Glory of Living marks her first outside play. She is pleased and honored to be a part of such a talented group of people. Much thanks to Melanie and Patrick for giving her this opportunity to begin with. Tiffany Hickman (Carol) is a Junior Theatre major at the Conservatory of Performing Arts at Point Park University. She was last seen at the Pittsburgh Playhouse in Last Tuesday for the Raymond Laine Memorial One-Act Festival. Tiffany spent her summer acting with the integrated deaf and hearing theatre company, Quest in Washington D.C.
Patrick Jordan (Clint, Set and Sound Designer) is a founding member of barebones productions. He recently performed in Big Love (No Name Players), The Late Henry Moss (Saints and Poets), and This Is Our Youth (barebones). This play would not have happened without the love, support, and help of my family and friends who are now my family.
Rob Long (Lighting Designer) is a professional artist specializing in lighting design and photography. A Western Pennsylvania native, Rob's art practice is built around theatrical productions, site-specific installations, and public art collaborations. Recent projects include a major exhibition of new light-based work at Pittsburgh Filmmakers and the lighting design for two plays: unbecoming, premiered off-Broadway in New York in February (2004) and Holler premiered at the Brew House in Pittsburgh in August. An active member of Pittsburgh's cultural community, Rob serves on the Board of Directors of the Brew House Association and Bricolage and is the co-founder of the Faces of Pittsburgh project. Charles McDermott (Assistant Technical Director) has worked on stages such as the City Theatre (Topdog/Underdog, Gompers), Quantum (Richard II), and many others as an assistant and apprentice to Douglas McDermott. Douglas McDermott (Technical Director) is currently in his sixth season with City Theatre, and his work has been seen in countless shows for Bricolage, the Jewish Community Center, Quantum Theatre, and many others.
Terry Parshall (Jim, Policeman, Hugh, Guard) is an actor, acting teacher, writer, and guitar player living in Pittsburgh.
Hollis Rabin (Angie) is a junior acting major at Point Park University. Past credits include Colorfast (Pittsburgh International Children's Festival) and A View From the Bridge (Pittsburgh Rep, company). Point Park credits include Marat/Sade (Patient), The Jungle Book (Raan), and Not Enough Rope (Raymond Laine Memorial One Act Fetsival, Edith). This past summer she performed at Busch Gardens in Wiliamsburg, VA.
Angela M. Vesco (Costume Designer) most recently designed The Moonlight Room for City Theatre and Holler for Bricolage. She is the Costume Shop Manager at City, where she has worked since 1992. Her other designs include the world premiere of Gompers by Adam Rapp, Oleanna, and Robeson for City Theatre, as well as work for many other local theater companies. Angela's work as a Make-Up Artist was seen in the hit production of Hedwig and the Angry Inch in both its City Theatre and Hartford Stage extended runs.
